Summary & background
I was part of a small engineering team building CloudCall's new unified communications platform on Asterisk, and moving the existing customer base across to it. Most of my own work sat around WebRTC and WebSocket Secure (WSS), getting browser-based calling to behave properly inside the Asterisk stack.
My place in the company
I owned the decisions about how our platform spoke to the upstream carriers and whether the two actually interoperated. The point of the WebRTC and WSS work was flexibility: customers could keep the handsets they already had, over a secure path, instead of being made to buy new kit in order to move platform.
Underneath that it was configuration work, network tuning, and keeping the platform current as both the customer base and VoIP itself moved on.
